According to the Environmental Protection Agency, many buildings suffer from SBS (Sick Building Syndrome) and/or BRI (Building Related Illness).
"Together, these represent two of the leading causes of preventable employee absenteeism in the workplace."
Most of these buildings attribute the problems directly with airborne contaminants including:
- Poor ventilation – characteristics of buildings and indoor environments have been linked to the prevalence of acute building related health symptoms often called sick building syndrome (SBS). Symptoms include irritation of the eyes, nose and skin, headaches, fatigue and difficulty breathing. A large part of the problem is typically the lack of fresh air for ventilation. Alpha can assist you with several ways to increase your office productivity by introducing fresh air in an efficiency manner.
- Air Filtration – all air filters have a MERV rating. MERV is the standard for measuring the overall efficiency of the air filter. The higher the number the better. Most buildings use MERV 4 filters which are roughly 60% efficient. We offer filters up to MERV 15 which are 99% efficient. These filters are so efficient they will capture everything from circulated germs from sneezing, mold spores, general office contaminates such as toner dust.
- Asbestos - within the building. Asbestos was used in many buildings over the years as a fire retardant and insulator in many construction materials. If disturbed or as its deteriorating the material will pose a health risk is allowed to enter the building air stream. Our services include working with state and federal authorities to provide a complete remediation plan including all removal and disposal.
- Radon is a cancer causing natural radioactive gas that you can see, taste or smell. Its presence in your home can put your family at risk. Radon is the second largest cause of lung cancer in the US. Lean how we can protect your family. It’s easy and inexpensive to fix you home if you have a radon level of 4 pCi/l or more.
Comprehensive duct cleaning
- Cleaning of all duct work using negative air HEPA technology to maintain a dust free environment
- Use of a specialized rotary system capable of cleaning flexible duct work
Sanitize all ductwork with EPA-registered antimicrobial disinfectant
- Coat the interior of all duct work with an EPA-registered disinfectant, eliminating bacteria and other allergens
Clean, wash and disinfect air handling unit
- The entire interior of the air handling unit – including the fan section, blower wheel, evaporator coil and drain pan - is cleaned using biodegradable HVAC products to provide a germ-free environment and more efficient air flow.
- All Alpha Clean technicians are qualified to perform this work with the required refrigeration license in accordance with the state labor board.
Secure existing duct work
- After years of contact air flow under pressure and minimal vibration, flexible duct connections can loosen and oftentimes disconnect entirely. This results in loss of air flow and balancing problems within the home. We use a high torque tool to secure all connections with sturdy nylon straps to prevent these problems in the future.
- All Alpha Clean technicians are qualified to perform this work with the necessary sheet metal trade license.
Assess system operation
- Finally, we provide a complete system check including testing and adjusting the refrigerant pressures important to efficient air conditioning, checking high limits important to protecting your heat exchangers, testing the drains to prevent condensation leaks and proving an overall efficiency checkup of your entire system.
Installation of ultraviolet (UV) light emitters
- UV light emitters mimic natural light to prevent the growth of bacteria and other allergens known to accumulate in the evaporator section of your air handling unit.
- Safely used to sanitize air in hospitals, clinics, medical and dental offices and food plants for more than 60 years.
- Can also provide 15% more system efficiency by maintaining a clean, bacterial free coil.
High efficiency air cleaner
- Our air cleaners are 95% efficient as compared to the typical 15% efficient air filters used in most HVAC systems.
- Our air cleaners are media based, requiring zero electricity to operate and require far less maintenance than electronic.
- When installed with UV emitters, these air cleaners provide a superior indoor air quality to your environment.
Sealing of duct joints
- Duct sealing accounts for as much as 40% loss of efficiency according to the Department of Energy.
- We seal every connection with high pressure mastic sealant made specifically for Energy Star rated projects.
- Provides better air flow to the space resulting in a more efficient overall system.
- Prevents duct infiltrating the return duct work as this portion of your system can act like a vacuum pulling in dust from unsealed connections.
Upgrade to HEPA grade air cleaner from high efficiency air cleaner
- Replacement of traditional high efficiency air cleaner with industry standard HEPA grade air cleaner
- Filters airborne particles down to 0.3 microns in size – some of the smallest allergens such as dust, smoke, pollen, animal dander, dust mites, etc.
- Operates at 99.97% efficiency rating
Installation of energy recovery ventilator
- Allows your system to meet ASHRAE ventilation and energy standards
- Dramatically improves indoor indoor air quality
- Increases system efficiency by reducing overall HVAC equipment capacity
Complete Air Quality Solutions
- Complete cleaning of your air distribution system including negative air duct cleaning
- Installation of UV emitters to create a healthier environment
- Solar thermal hot water systems
